I am stunned by what has happened down South though. Looking at the pictures of the city looking like some haunted post-apocalyptic zombie movie set sends chills down your spine. I spent days glued to the TV or the internet watching as they showed videos of absolute carnage. Watching people, New Zealanders, being dragged out covered in red stained sheets. Eight days later and still they are recovering them.

You see scenes of flooding in Australia, tsunami’s over in the islands, big land slides in Asia, hurricanes in America. But it feels so far away, and it is painful, but it’s international news and “happening to someone else”. To have something happen in your own back yard makes you feel so, well, vulnerable I guess.

They reckon the next big one will hit Wellington… we had an earthquake last night, but it was relatively minor. I think we’re incredibly lucky. And I think Christchurch has been battered and shaken, but will rise up better than ever. They have a country behind them giving everything they have got to help them rebuild their lives and their beautiful city. <3

So what can you do?

I’m worried for New Zealand. We are a dirt poor country borrowing millions per week, so we’re going to need all the help we can get. So if you can help, then please do.

Donate: To donate or to help out Christchurch, please get in touch with the New Zealand Red Cross or visit the NZ Government Christchurch Earthquake Appeal website. Also consider donating to the SPCA, as there are lots of little animals without homes etc out there now.
BEWARE: there are many fraudsters out there, so make sure you donate through an official channel.

Spread the word: Get on Facebook, Twitter etc and spread the word on how others can help. Follow @NZstuff and @NZherald and other news agencies and retweet what’s happening. Raise the awareness. Use the #chch and #eqnz hashtags.

I’m currently doing some work on the screenshots for the games on this website.  A lot of them were taken years ago and are teeny-weeny (eww, see Coolspot.)  

I can take much bigger screenshots, more of them, and just better quality really (well as quality as the game was, right?) It’s time to go back and look at ones I took before I used DOSBox and get them up to scratch!

We should also get some videos in there too huh? We do have a Bunny Abandonware YouTube channel, it’s just used for some pretty irrelvant things right now… Then again, are you sure you want to see me fucking up constantly when it comes to jumping over gaps n stuff? I’m a shitty platform gamer, it’s a known fact.

Anyway, work is underway. So keep your eyes peeled for updated game screenies and videos.

I’ve been doing some site maintenance tonight.  Making sure everything is running smoothly behind the scenes, and that the Google stuff is all ticking along nicely.

I really should play some games. Anyone want to recommend any that should be added to the site?

Y’know, I still don’t have a PC that can handle playing games like Left 4 Dead, Half Life 2 or any new and exciting games. Not that Half Life is actually that new!

That’s why I thank God for Abandonware, and also awesome games which you can still buy like Warcraft II. You’d be interested to know that even if you don’t own a legit copy (and I own two for some reason) you can probably pirate yourself one (or Starcraft) and play on the Asian Battle.Net servers with your friends – nobody is there anymore, therefore nobody’s keys are there either…

I’ve also been dabbling with early version of The Settlers, Dungeon Keeper, Fallout 1 & 2 and Heaven & Hell.

And yes, I will be adding more games here over time. But as you all know, I don’t just add anything. It’s only games I like

Hopefully it’ll keep updated. Well, more updated than this bloody site has been lately eh? Not hard really. Sorry about that folks. If only I could quit my job and just update my site all day and play games. Alas, that will never happen…

I remember when there were many abandonware websites. Back in the days of Flashback, Conservatory etc. Then maybe we grow up and grow away from these things. Everyone runs off and gets a job or gets married The rest of us die-hard nerds are left here behind holding it all together… Maybe abandonware stops being 100k games from the 80s and becomes 100mb games from the late 90s and we are left with the issue of hosting and bandwidth. What to do?

The die-hards aren’t leaving. The Good Old Days, XTC Abandonware, Abandonia, this website. We’ll still be here.

It’s a sad day when the world loses access to rare games, old games, forgotten games, forsaken games.

I must say it is a relief that HOTU went down because the hosting company went bankrupt. Is that an awful thing to say? I’m glad because it’s not because it got closed down by some crappy dictatorshippycommunisty IDSA or something bullshit like that.

Hopefully someone is man enough to step up and take over. Did I say “man enough”? This scene is run by chicks – if you didn’t know that then you should leave again in case you get an inferiority complex

Sad day, sad day indeed. It means the rest of us are going to have to work extra hard to pick up the slack. Rise to the challenge boys :p

Check out Wizard Wars, it is an addictive game with annoying sound – just what you come to love and expect from older games!

But, I do live for abandonware! -_-; And I’m loving the progress of this site. I am really happy, and I guess.. encouraged to see the new sites which are still being built to support this cause. I remember when it was the 1990s and we were starting abandonware websites to keep the 1980s alive. And it’s nearly 2010 and people are still starting up websites to keep the 1980s alive, as well as the 1990s.

Keep up the good work everyone. It’s worthy cause, and as curators of these museums we’re doing a damn fine job.

I wrote a bit about it over on my blog at www.weetbix.net, and DarKsiDe was nice enough to stop by and provide more information about what’s happening with the site and where it’ll be heading. So defintely go over and have a read for more information.

It may be hard to get it all sorted, with keeping up with what is seeding, removing old games no longer abandonware etc.� I am pleased to hear that there will be more info shared per game, screenshots etc.� Plus, limited uploaders to keep the quality.

I think it’s going to be useful for repopulating the abandonware world.� People will be able to review games, start up sites and link to the Abandonware Torrents site to encourage people to share the old games.

I’m looking forward to getting involved and sharing a lot of abandonware through Abandonware Torrents, I hope everyone else gets behind this awesome concept and shares the love too.

Lets talk about my history. I had my first internet connection established in 1996, when we were still using 115k2 serial cable modems overhere in The Netherlands. After looking around on the web for a while I tried to login into IRC for the first time. As a newbie as I was at that particular time I tried to login through the web browser, which obviously didnt work. At some point in time I managed to get onto EFnet, IRC and looked for abandonware channels. At that time abandonware wasnt invented yet, so I was looking for people sharing the same interest in old games. I ended up in a channel called #1980warez. After bumming around in there for some time I started to use my ftp, xdcc and finally fserver powers. When the channel became less and less interesting I went on in 1997 to #adventurewarez, with ArChiS leading the place and finally to good old #oldgames, where I still remain.

I came into contact with Bunnzy in 2001, although she claimes it was much earlier. I dont remember really. I always thought it was 2001. Anyhow, we know each other for quite a while now and I recently told her I wanted to start my own abandonware site and didnt want to suck at it. So she offered me her help or I could join Bunny Abandonware instead. Easy choice really, I’ll just join up with her We already share the same domain and webspace, so this is a logical step further.

Anyhow, I hope you enjoy my reviews as I will probably release a few more soon onto this website. We’ll keep Bunny Abandonware running in 2008 as well!

Firstly we have moved into v4.0. The new wordpress setup is working awesomely. We are also fully moved to our new host – Huzzah to Hexie. You can send him lots of love emails via this website. Use our contact form to say thank you to him. He’s really our saviour! (Seriously, get that love mail flowing okay!)

Our second biggest change was getting Abandoned Places added to our collection. Now we have to great sites run by the fabulous people here. Well, I’m the only person, I guess that makes me fabulous? No?

It’s been, 9 years now? It’s been a long time anyway. I’ve seen a lot of sites go down the tubes over the years. Even ones which are still alive from the good old days are abandoned themselves, never to be updated (read: HOTU, Flashback etc). We’ll keep trucking Long live abandonware and our worthy cause.

It’s been a good long run, but we’ve reached a cross-roads…

The new BA 4.0 looks good. Everything behind the scenes now runs so much better using WordPress than my old BA control panel which … well you don’t want to see that. I wouldn’t even put it up so you could have a good laugh :p Thank you so much to my cousin Brett for his help configuring everything and helping a bit with the migration. Now BA will run smoother, updating will be easier and keeping all those games in check will be much more simple.

Thanks for all the games that people have contributed and the great reviews, all the work you’ve put in over the years has kept this site going and going. You all know who you are

Thanks for nothing to the assholes that leave comments picking apart things or demanding why I have a game up if I don’t have it for download. If you don’t like what I do with my site then f**k off. If you want to buy me a big server that can handle lots of traffic and downloads then feel free to contact me, if not then just be happy with what I do provide. To all those who do want some games that I don’t have here but are nice and polite then please contact me and I can arrange an ftp or get on IRC and send them over.

It’s been a long time coming, but thanks for being patient, and thanks for all the kind e-mails of praise and encouragement that I still get into my inbox. It’s the things like that which make it worth it. Well, the second reason is that, the first is because I love games, I especially love older games, and I want nothing more than to preserve them.
