A simple concept really. This game generates wordfind puzzles, like you used to do in your mums Woman’s Weekly.

There are over 100 different categories of words which you can select from, plus this game also has a special function – you can create your own word lists to use. There is a manual included in the game, plus a small manual available below with instructions.

By default the puzzles are quite large, and it can be a bit time consuming trying to differentiate the letters in that oldschool font. A great feature of this programme is that you can save your games and continue them later.

You can configure the puzzles so they are a bit smaller, use different colours etc. If you are playing on the screen you can have from 10×10 to 24×50 letters. You can also play print games (it’ll send the puzzle to the printer) ranging from 10×10 to 40×80. If you want to keep those kids busy then just generate a random puzzle to the printer. Great for making wordfind books for your Nana too.

I have made a small text file with the keys to use. I was playing this game on a laptop and there was no numberpad. It pays to know the keys if you’re going to be discovering words diagonally.

If you play in DOSBox then I recommend playing this game fullscreen, otherwise you might end up straining your eye-balls!

Another worthy Tetris clone. Well, more like a Beyond Columns clone, because there aren’t funky shapes, only blocks three long. I just had to play this because Beyond Columns was one of my favourite games.

The idea is simple, the blocks fall from the sky, you have to get three in a row to get the points, get four or more and you get even more points. Press spacebar and it’ll toggle the blocks around. Left, right and down do what you would expect them to.

This game has some nice touches, the music is brilliant. You can change what the blocks look like. I like the sparklies one, but there are faces, dice, kinetics, plasma, blobs, all kinds of things! It takes ages to play the game and play them all. It’ll always be exciting

There is a two player option in this game, it is fun to play with others too. A bit like local Tetrinet! The keys for P2 are “w” to toggle the pieces, “c” for left, “b” for right and “v” for down.

If you did like Beyond Columns like I did then you’ll love this

This game was really popular in the arcades over here. Fortunately the PC version isn’t a lame imitation, it was developed the same as the arcade version. I’m glad they did make it for Atari, Amiga and DOS because it’s so damn addictive.

This game is like tetris with a twist. If you aren’t good at 3D or distinguishing colours then you’re gonna be in trouble. The blocks come down a conveyer belt towards you, and you have to collect them and deposit them into the slots below. Sort of like Tubes! However you can only hold a certain amount before they start slipping through. You can only let three slip through and then the level is over. You do get a few chances however. But you’re going to need them for the harder levels.

You are given tasks which you need to complete, such as getting 3 sets of diagonals or 10,000 points. As you play the levels they get faster, so the sooner you accomplish the tasks the better.

I really did enjoy this game. I ended up playing it for hours! Tetris is one of the best games ever made (I have about three different versions on my cellphone). So, if you enjoy tetris, you’ll love this game.

This games is more than one mere game. The Christmas Lemmings series included four great short games by the dudes from Psygnosis.

The four games are all included in the one download from this site, for your pleasure. They are:

Xmas Lemmings (1991)

Xmas Lemmings (1992)

Christmas/Holiday Lemmings (1993)

Christmas/Holiday Lemmings (1994)

A bit about the games then eh? So, in true Lemming style you had to guide the lemmings from the entry to the exit. Overcoming all barriers using things like digging, steps, etc. Nominating lemmings to do the tasks.

The first two games had very few levels and were considered demo’s. The latter two were full games with 16 levels each. If I recall correctly the 1991 Xmas Lemmings had less levels than the 1992 Xmas Lemmings, because it included a couple of levels from the Oh No! More Lemmings game. You check that out and let me know.

All four games have the Christmas theme going on, from the little suits the lemmings wear to the halls decked out with bells and holly. They battle their way through ice and snow laying down their planks of wood true lemmings-style.

If you expected something different, then apart from visually and musically you will be let down. But if you’re into puzzle gaming, enjoyed the Lemmings games and want something fun for the festive season then by all means download these cool titles.

Oh, they are so cute with their little hats on, and as they are walking along they go boing, boing, boing, and the music is just brilliant!!

A very addictive action/puzzle hybrid with a low learning curve and tons of playability. The plot is not important (kill the big baddie, rescue the girl), just fight your way through a series of mazes, dropping timed bombs to clear out all the monsters. As you progress through the game you will get powerups which will at the very least make your bombs more powerful.

The single player game is good, the multiplayer game is great. Compete against friends trying to blow eachother up (tricking them into walking into an explosion is always the most fun ).

All in all a very simple, but very addictive way to waste a few hours

It’s a basic concept really, you guide the ball as it rolls down the hills until you get to the exit. With any good puzzle game there are obstacles of course, such as bumps and holes to avoid. Sometimes it gets quite hard as the pathways get very narrow and you still have to make sure your marble doesn’t fall off the edge. There are dark marbles to avoid hitting, and piles of goo that will eat your marble up.

This may seem very straightforward, but this is a VERY addictive game. Definitely not for the impatient, as I found that it took me a long, long time to get used to the controls, and an even longer time to pass up through the levels. Having a time limit to get the marble through each level is quite a challenge.

Lovely CGA graphics magenta and cyan. If you can play Tandy then I really recommend you do, as you’ll be able to have 16 colours – it does make a hell of a difference. PC Speaker sounds, which can be irritating, but trust me, I’ve heard much worse than this game!

I would suggest playing this game with a joystick, as the controls are a bit out of whack for a keyboard.

This game used to keep me occupied for hours. Going through the different pieces of the puzzle trying to build pipes before the goo got spilt everywhere.

The aim is to keep the goo from coming out the end until the timer runs out. If you want a good puzzle game, that can pose quite a challenge when you get up to the harder levels. As the levels increase the goo will start sooner, and you will be expected to keep it going for longer. The goo comes out a lot quicker and you have to work really hard to keep ahead of it. They start placing obstacles in the way, like bricks and walls etc. You can get bonus points for making the goo cross over itself using the + shaped pipes.

You should try this one out just for a bit of fun Everyone should be able to say that they have played this game.

Ah Sokoban, the mother of many clones. The concept of this game was so simple, yet so original and perfectly puzzling that the game stood out in the puzzle game crowd. I used to play this for hours on end, and when I got a windows clone, I would make my own levels.

The situation is you are given a room, with walls all over the place, and you have to move the boxes onto the diamonds. Of course boxes can get trapped and then you can’t move them anymore, and you have to start again. When you get all the boxes placed on the diamonds then you progress to the next level. See? The concept is simple, but is the game simple? No way! Even the first level makes you think, and by the time you get to the fourth level you can just envisage what the 50th will be like! Woe is you indeed. But you go red in the face, drink 100L of Coca-Cola and you persevere!

The graphics leave a lot to be desired, but what can you expect from an early 80’s game? You’ll still get addicted even if the colours make you feel a bit wasted .

You HAVE to play this game, it’s the original and can’t be beat. It’s the mother of all puzzle games!

This game is AWESOME! I used to sit up for ages with my friend Leonie and we would try and nut out the hardest ones. For a game this has some dang hard levels! I can’t actually say that I have completed them all, and then we take into account that there were more games made in this series!

There are so many things you use in this game, such as cats, mice, goldfish bowls, boxing gloves, trampolines, monkeys and electric fans. You get the idea. You are given an array of objects, and a task to complete. For example you can be given a bowling ball, pair of scissors and a balloon. Your task is to use these objects to pop the balloon. Of course this is a very basic idea of what you could be faced with. It gets to the stage where you have a whole heap of objects, a small screen and you have to make the cat fall down, pop 5 balloons and also make the 5 mice run and the fishbowl shatter . It turns into a real brainteaser.

As you complete tasks, they get harder and harder as you progress through the levels. But there are so many levels! If you complete all the tasks/levels (and if you do I salute you), then you can go into freeform mode, and just go hard with all the wacky parts and create your own monster levels. Very, very cool . I of course had my work cut out for me with the levels and challenges in the game, but to make some really strange things was so much fun. Hitting the cat with the bowling ball was fun . Yes, that’s right, you can live out those fantasies of hurting that cat that just wouldn’t cooperate when you were trying to do a level in the game! Make killer levels for your smart-arse friends that think they own The Incredible Machine

This game is great for making your mind work really hard, and also for coming up with the wackiest contraptions. You almost feel like MacGyver playing this, in fact I’d suggest getting the MacGyver theme song and playing it for inspiration while you play this game. Also the music would be a great improvement on the music that is in the game. The music is umm.. awful? Yeah, that’s a good word for it. The music is really bad =

The graphics must have been where all that part of the budget or the time went. The graphics are excellent! All the little parts have been drawn so well, and the animations as fans turning, rockets launching, guns shooting or the monkey riding the bike are so cool too. Everything is drawn really well in the game, and the menu’s etc are all really cool too. A huge thumbs up for the graphics!

This game is great. It will keep you occupied forever. You can just keep on playing it, because there are over 100 levels. By the time you have completed them all and made some fun things in freeform, you can play it again. I can’t remember the solutions to many of the levels; I could go through right now and end up just as psyched out as when I first played it.

A puzzle game like no other, have a play. Torture the cat and kill that goldfish. Tease the monkey while at it

I finally got this game. Thanks to my cousin Brett I’ve been searching for it for ages – dude you rule! This game was so much fun when I was younger, puzzle games are a dime a dozen, but this one really stood out.

In this game there is a scientist, and all his particles have gone astray. You have to help him clean them up by putting them into test tubes. There are two modes you can play in (endurance or wave) and there are also difficulty levels.

Basically there are 6 tubes, and the particles come down them, and you can’t let them fall out the ends (aka drop)! You only get so many drops, and as you progress up through the levels it gets harder. You have this test tube on a slider and you have to catch the particle when it comes out of the tube by sliding across. You then empty one particle at a time from the test tube into the beaker below. You can hold up to 5 particles in the test tube so you can be strategic with how you empty them, as when you get three of one colour on top of each other in the beaker they disappear and you get points (sound like some sort Tetris kinda?)

Sounds easy huh? Well that’s not all you see, there are other particles in amongst them and they have different tricks. Some are helpful and empty the test tube, whilst some are evil and turn the ones already in there to lead.

I always thought the graphics were really good for this game. It had an interesting beginning and was always pleasant to look at.

The gameplay is excellent, it’s a really fun and challenging puzzle game. Tubes is a great game when it comes to taking a puzzle game and approaching it from a great angle. Many games are straightforward and have no theme. Tubes is also really hard to quit. It’s also quite rare and overlooked, so the more people out there who give it a shot and spread the word the better. Download it!
